The 80th annual Venice Film Festival took place August 30 – September 9, 2023, with several awards going to Italian films:

• Silver Lion to Matteo Garrone’s Io capitano
• Marcello Mastroianni Award to Seydou Sarr for his performance in Io capitano
• Orizzonti Special Jury Prize to Alain Parroni’s An Endless Sunday
• Orizzonti Best Screenplay to Enrico Maria Artale’s El paraiso
• Orizzonti Extra Audience Award to Micaela Ramazzotti’s Felicita’
