David di Donatello Award Nominations (2020)

The 65th annual David di Donatello Awards, taking place on April 3, announced their nominees last week! Marco Bellochio’s The Traitor leads with 18 nominations, followed by The First King (Matteo Rovere) and Pinocchio (Matteo Garrone) each with 15.

Up for Best Film are:

  • The First King (Matteo Rovere)
  • The Traitor (Marco Bellochio)
  • Piranhas (Claudio Giovannesi)
  • Martin Eden (Pietro Marcello)
  • Pinocchio (Matteo Garrone)

  • Among the nominees for Best New Director are Leonardo D’Agostini (whom I interviewed earlier this year) for The Champion and Carlo Sironi for Sole.
  • Luca Guadagnino’s Suspiria earned nominations for its music, set design, and visual effects.
